EPS is an ideal material for recycling

EPS is composed of almost single material, and therefore the sorting of it is easy and the compaction to reduce its volume by heat, solvent and /or physical compression is practicable.@Thus EPS has excellent properties for recycling.
The recycling technology of EPS also has been developed remarkably in order to achieve lower costs and higher quality, and today three processes of EPS recycling are practiced.

Material Recycling

to recycle into raw materials to make plastic products.

Chemical Recycling

to decompose back to raw chemicals (gas or oil) by heat and pressure and reuse as fuel, etc.

to recycle by production of heat energy by combustion and reuse for power generation, etc.

Polystyrene

Sorting and collection of EPS are easy, because it is composed of almost single material. In order to solve EPSfs weak point in recycling of its bulkiness, the compaction process to reduce the volume is practiced using heat or solvent, or by physical compression. The compacted ingot (a lump of polystyrene) finds its good market and is reused as a recycled raw material effectively.

In addition, the recycling technology of EPS has been developed remarkably in order to achieve the lower cost and the higher quality. And above all, the raw material beads (recycled beads) is recycled from EPS waste and further reused as cushioned packaging for household appliances, etc. This process is called gbeads to beadsh or gEPS to EPSh, where the recycling loop is perfectly closed, and has become practicable more extensively.
